Bypass road cut as seen from Via Verdi - 7/21/10
City of Richmond Community Meeting, 7/15/10 at Richmond Masonic Hall on El Portal Dr., 6 - 7PM
City of Richmond Engineering Dept. engineers Edric Kwan, interim city engineer , and Tawfic Halaby, associate civil engineer email: tawfic_halaby@ci.richmond.ca.us gave a presentation to a small crowd. They showed diagrams of the bypass road which began construction the following Monday 7/19/10. Originally O.C. Jones was the general contractor constructing the temporary bypass road next to the sinkhole, but the City of Richmond switched to Bay Cities because this outfit gave them a better price for the bypass road construction. The bypass road will be paved and is being dug through cemetery property. Streetlight as shown in diagrams below will be installed. It was unclear if the cemetery was being paid for this bypass road. According to these engineers, "studies" will commence in the Fall to permanently fix the sinkhole. It was unclear how long this would take and how much it would cost. The engineers acknowledge the City of Richmond IT Dept. has been slow in updating the city's website information on the sinkhole.
