San Pablo Dam Seismic Upgrade Contstruction Update

March 11, 2009

The San Pablo Dam Seismic Upgrade is going well. The contractor is currently installing the Cement Deep Soil Mixing (CDSM). This email is to update you on a few adjustments to the construction sequencing.

We have been encouraged to date with our contractor's ability to maintain noise below the values allowed in our Environmental Impact Report Studies and have received several compliments from the neighborhood to that effect. The contractor has been working CDSM for 2 ten hour shifts from 4:00 am to 12 midnight daily Monday - Saturday as much as possible this winter. However, recent heavy rains and the typical unknowns that are confronted during underground construction have caused delays to the schedule. EBMUD is anxious to return the reservoir to service prior to the start of the 2009-10 rainy season and is working with the contractor to find ways to make up this time without negatively impacting our immediate neighbors. To this end we have decided to allow the contractor to go to a 24 hour schedule Monday from 6:00 AM through Saturday to 8:00 pm for CDSM work only. To efficiently run 24 hours the contractor may need to expand cement deliveries up until 9:00 pm Monday - Friday. We are also looking at additional cement storage on-site to minimize that need.

Both the community and EBMUD will benefit from the efforts to recover the schedule. In this way, budgets can be met and park access and water supply capacity can be restored as soon as possible. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me at (510) 287 2053 or mblackwe@ebmud.com. Thank you for your continued patience as we work to upgrade and maintain your water system.

San Pablo Dam Seismic Upgrade Construction Update
August 19, 2008

The San Pablo Dam Seismic Upgrade construction is in progress.
The trailers and fencing are now in place and security is on site. We have completed the initial environmental sweeps of the site, started the initial clearing of brush and expect to start earth movement and cement deep soil mixing operations soon. We will be conducting some limited Saturday work starting this month. The planned Saturday work is expected to be unobtrusive and will not impact Kennedy Grove Operations.
The Bay Ridge Trail Realignment is mostly complete. The remaining work includes powering the pedestrian signal and installing signage.

San Pablo Dam seismic Upgrade Construction Update

Nov. 13, 2008

The San Pablo Dam Seismic Upgrade construction is on schedule and moving into the Cement Deep Soil Mixing (CDSM) production phase. The old dirt buttress has been removed and the dirt has been stockpiled on site for reuse when we rebuild the buttress. The stockpile is engineered to limit the visual and noise impacts of the CDSM phase of the project for nearby homes and from Kennedy Grove. The CDSM production phase is expected to start in mid to late November. During CDSM production the contractor is allowed two ten hour shifts (20 hours per day) Monday through Saturday. Most of this work will be behind the stockpile. Cement deliveries to the site are generally limited to Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. The contractor will not be working on the four day Thanksgiving weekend.
